We catch up with James McKillop who returned to Savills after 9 years at Knight Frank, now head of Salisbury office.

"The loyalty and retention of key staff and business generators speaks volumes for the strength of our wider business."

Wonderful you are back in action at Savills; What do you enjoy most about being back?

What hit me most was coming up to Margaret Street for Lindsay Cuthill’s leaving drinks and seeing so many familiar faces, many of whom I had initially learned from in my graduate days, who are now market leaders in their various fields of expertise. The loyalty and retention of key staff and business generators speaks volumes for the strength of our wider business.

If you could think of two or three experiences that still make you laugh out loud from previous inspections – what might they be?

Ha! On one of my very first pitches, the client failed to mention their daughter was back from uni and upstairs. We were being shown around the bedrooms and she had just got up and was in a slightly “unprepared state”. It could have been a lot worse… On another occasion, we seemed to have delivered a really good pitch which had lasted about 90 minutes or so and I had called the client Sarah throughout. We were discussing terms and afterwards she said she wanted to instruct us. I asked her to confirm her email address and she said “Its emma1davies…” or something like that. I was mortified but she laughed it off and said we were the best she had met!

Have you sold the same house twice but for different companies?

Happily, yes. Three, maybe four off the top of my head. And I can happily think of a good number of former clients who have come to me for an introduction to others in the wider area. Thankfully, they have nearly always been well looked after.
